Therapies
One concern that people often have about engaging in cognitive and emotional therapy is the belief that it can be a very long and difficult process. This is often not the case and many people can benefit from direct intervention to alleviate negative thought processes, resolve emotional pain and re-make their relationships.
Marriage and Couple Counselling
Marriage and couple counselling can assist you in learning new ways to communicate, to resolve old conflicts, find peace and forgiveness in your relationship and establish or renew an intimate and loving relationship with your partner. Therapy is offered for couples with concerns around communication, conflict, emotional intimacy, sexual intimacy, infidelity (including internet affairs), blended families, child-rearing and infertility issues. Therapies offered include Strategic Intervention, Systems-based therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Emotionally-Focussed Therapy.
Counselling is also available for people who are experiencing emotional stresses as they are going through separation and divorce, and to mediate any challenges they're experiencing through this process.
Individual Counselling and Coaching
Support and life-changing cognitive strategies are available for a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, addiction, communication and relationship issues, eating disorders, esteem concerns, dealing with abuse, meaning and life-path questions, as well as stress and anger management.
Coaching is used to resolve uncertainties about life-direction and to identify hidden motivators and needs that perpetuate self-defeating behaviours. Strategies for success are then developed to create a blue-print for a joyful life journey.
Counselling for Children and Teens
Counselling is offered for children who are experiencing challenges with behaviour management, anxiety/depression, issues with ADD/ADHD and learning difficulties.
Counselling is available for teens experiencing issues with self-confidence and self-esteem, self-abuse, eating disorders, anxiety, depression and substance abuse.
Common Emotional Health Issues
Anxiety is a normal reaction to sudden or severe stress, however, it can become a problem when the symptoms are so severe, persistent, and distressing, that they negatively affect an individual’s ability to carry out some of their normal daily activities. Common symptoms include excessive worry, extreme fear, shortness of breath, increased heart-rate, insomnia, trembling, light-headedness, out-of-body sensations and dizziness.
Anxiety disorders are common. Some research suggests that up to one in four adults has experienced an anxiety disorder at some point in their life. It is the number one mental health problem reported by women, and the second most-often reported by men. Recurring panic attacks can lead to avoidance of situations where there is fear that another attack might be triggered. As people withdraw from life, they are more prone to developing depression. Some people may abuse alcohol and drugs to cope with anxious feelings. Panic disorder can become the dominating factor in the sufferer's life.
Counselling strategies can help individuals suffering from anxiety to return to normal and happy lives.
Depression is the most commonly reported mental health issue. Approximately 15-25% of women and 10-15% of men will experience a major depressive episode during their lifetime. Depression is different than a brief period of unhappiness, or grief following the loss of a loved one. It encompasses a range of symptoms that include low mood, feeling hopeless, changes in appetite, changes in sleep patterns, body pain, along with negative thinking and difficulty in concentrating.
Counselling therapy can relieve depression by opening up the underlying issues, helping to recognize and manage difficult emotions, and assisting in changing unproductive thinking.
